Hands up who’s ever sown seeds and ended up with a seedling (or twenty) too many?
That’s right, in playing it safe and thinking some of the seeds won’t germinate, you’ve sown the entire pack – only for them all to germinate.
Wouldn’t it be great if at the corner of your street there was a place where you could leave your surplus plants for other residents to pick up and enjoy?
Or an unused phone box that could be converted into a miniature green house for these seedlings to grow?
Then, throughout the season, people could use this spot (it could be as simple as an upcycled cupboard) to bring their glut (be it of fruit, vegetables or cut flowers).
And come the end of the growing season, residents could harvest seeds to share, to begin the cycle all over again.
The magic of growing – it’s the gift that keeps on giving.
(And we’ve got pollinators to thank for that).
