A large brick built planter that is part of the original design at the station was lovingly looked after for years by one of the station staff. But with their retirement it had been sadly neglected. We stepped in and refurbished the planting and also transformed an abandoned grit box into a second, small planter.
Previously overgrown but now planted up with rosemary plants, thanks to the Bee Friendly Trust and the Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership. As these plants mature, they will cover the bank every spring with a sea of blue/purple, bee-friendly flowers.
The wildlife garden at Wrabness Railway Station is a bee-autiful example of what the Bee Friendly Trust does best. Planters don’t have to be big to pack a punch. The ones we installed, with support from Essex County Council and Essex & South Suffolk Community Rail, may be slightly smaller than our usual size but they are still proving popular with the local bee, butterfly and other pollinator populations.
