Users of Falmer Rail Station may have noticed some bee-friendly changes to their station, of late. Over the past couple of months, the Bee Friendly Trust team have been hard at work transforming a neglected strip of land and 17m long footbridge into a haven for bees and other pollinators.
Local street artist HarpoArt transformed the Amex Footbridge with two murals – one outlining the story of pollination; the other depicting common pollinators, including bees, moths and bats.
A strip of land running alongside the station platform, has been planted with pollen-rich plants such as sedum, lavender, cyclamen, salvias and hebe.
The work has been generously funded by donations from GTR and ACoRP, and was officially unveiled by the Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Alexandra Phillips.
