Flitwick Railway Station, Bedfordshire

The old station master’s garden, dating back to 1850, was concreted over many years ago.

It was impossible to dig up the concrete because of the cables running beneath it.

So we have built a large planter on the concrete footprint to replicate, as far as possible, the original garden.

We are planting it up with traditional English garden flowers, including foxgloves and phlox.

The Royal British Legion will be taking care of the plants.

In 2023, as part of our project with Govia Thameslink, to install homes for nature across their network of stations, we added a gabion wildlife home plus bee hotel to the site.
