Host a Bee-Themed Event

What better way to celebrate the country’s pollinators and spread the message of their vital role than with a community gathering.

This could take many forms – your limit really is your imagination.

Some suggestions that might work well…

  • A bee-themed market where local producers and makers can sell items such as British honey, handmade honey soaps, beeswax candles, honey cakes, beeswax foodwrap, pollinator-themed toys and games… Sounds like a version of the online bft shop 😉
  • Window Wanderland event, themed around the importance of pollinators. Run creative workshops in advance giving people an opportunity to make displays for their windows then share a map of all the houses taking part.
  • A street party or party in a playing field or park. There could be bee-themed activities (pin the bee to the flower; guess the weight of the jar of honey; balance a knitted bee on a spoon race), a performance from our very own troupe of Waggle Dancers, and a competition for the best homemade cakes and biscuits with honey or pollinators as the focal point.
  • A talk or workshop – perhaps a local beekeeper might share their tales from the hive or even offer the opportunity for local residents to observe them at work.
  • A play – your Bee Friendly School could bring the magic of the hive to life. Why not encourage pupils to write their own script then share a performance with the community.
  • A fun run – with prizes for the best bee costumes or bee-themed accessories!
  • A film night. There are plenty of films to choose from – Bee Movie being one of the most obvious. All you need then is a hall, a protector and a freezer-full of choc ices.
