The bank on Harlington Station’s northbound platform has had hibernaculum, bird boxes and bee hotel installed. Created as part of our project with Govia Thameslink to install homes for nature across their network of stations.
The old station master’s garden, dating back to 1850, was concreted over many years ago. It was impossible to dig up the concrete because of the cables running beneath it. Proving that you don’t need a lot of space to create a wildlife area, this small triangular patch ticks all the boxes for pollinators with raised beds of pollen-rich plants, including flowering herbs.
