After discussions with local residents, we installed two Mediterranean beds on two tired patched of grass outside the station. Olive trees, rosemary and lavender make up the planting. Since we built the planters local enthusiasts have extended the planting to make the areas outside the station inviting for all.

Barbican Railway Station, London
A huge pop up garden on an abandoned platform at Barbican station, had itself been abandoned. We came in and cleared away broken planters, removed rogue buddleia, refashioned the remaining thirty planters into clusters interspersed with some old terracotta pots that we found elsewhere on the station. We have planted up with rosemary and grasses …
Upper Holloway Railway Station, London
We have planted a beautiful Mediterranean dry garden on one of the platforms, and our volunteers are creating a peaceful garden for staff and wildlife across an overgrown area that has a small orchard, fruit bushes, and forage for bees, alongside seating for station staff their breaks.

Filled with pollinator-friendly plants, including rosemary and salvias, the planter was made possible thanks to Transport for London and donations from Bloom & Wild.

Hacking through dense undergrowth, like characters in a Grimms’ fairy tale, they uncovered wooden sculptures, two ponds, concrete and wire animals, and thriving wildlife. The area is …
Feltham Railway Station, London
We were asked by a local community group to come up with a planter at Feltham Station to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The result is full of red, white and blue plants, including some fabulous hydrangeas.
Becontree Railway Station, London
When we planted the bed at Becontree Railway Station, these lavender plants were tiny plugs. Look at them now! These plants are positively buzzing with bees throughout the summer months. Thanks to TfL for letting this happen.
Uxbridge Railway Station, London
This bed was incredibly overgrown when our gardening team were called in by TfL to its rescue. They carefully cut back dominating plants to give everything room to thrive and added in more pollinator-friendly flowers for seasonal forage.
Helen Musselwhite
The Yards & The Bees was a series of bold art installations celebrating urban bees at The Yards Covent Garden, in London. After the exhibition came to a close, three of the four artworks were generously donated to the Bee Friendly Trust. ‘Bees in the City’ (pictured) by Helen Musselwhite – who typically works with …
