Adding to our popular TFL-led cluster of bee-friendly projects at London underground stations, our team breathed new life into a neglected station-long planter.
A group of local enthusiasts approached for help with this project, clearing out long neglected beds and now starting work on a small orchard.
Underground in Bloom winners thanks to our collaboration with Transport for London staff at the station and our gardening team. The station beds have been transformed and a bespoke bug hotel added.
Our Worker Bees team did some stellar work clearing the 35m long bed and bank at Newbury Park. Once a well-tended garden, but left forgotten, we cleared out the weeds and created a heritage variety fruit orchard along the length of the station. London Overground and London Underground meet here and this has been a joint project with both. We have built large planters on the District Line platform and created a series of raised beds from scaffolding planks on the Overground Platform.
We have worked closely with South Western Railways, Network Rail and Transport for London to install planters on this busy interchange.
Visitors to the London Wetlands Centre get off their trains at Barnes and our mature planters and wildflower meadow provide a welcome start to their visit.
